English Sparkle, Served Year-Round

20th Jun 2025

English wine has gone from countryside curiosity to world-class contender—now even Champagne is taking notes.

Climate change, chalk-rich soils, and bold ambition have transformed the south of England into one of the most exciting sparkling wine regions globally. So much so that Champagne houses are now planting vines in Kent and Sussex, recognising that what once seemed improbable is now inevitable: England is making exceptional wine.

This English Wine Week (21–29 June), the Luxury Restaurant Guide celebrates not just what’s in the glass, but the remarkable shift behind it. Today, English sparkling wines are requested as often as Champagne—an evolution that’s reshaping wine lists across the country. We’ve curated a list of 160 top restaurants and hotels that proudly feature both English sparkling wines and Champagnes, reflecting the finest in taste, terroir and tradition.

The Champagne Connection

This isn’t just a flattering comparison. Champagne houses like Pommery and Taittinger have already planted vines in the English countryside. Taittinger’s Domaine Évremond is due to release its debut English sparkling in 2025—a quiet revolution now rippling through the industry.

Meanwhile, producers such as Nyetimber, Gusbourne, Bolney, Sugrue South Downs, and Chapel Down are collecting awards and outperforming their international counterparts in blind tastings. This is wine with backbone and brilliance, grown on home soil.

Where Sparkling Meets the Table

From vineyard estates to curated wine lists, English wine is increasingly shaping the fine dining landscape. At Lympstone Manor in Devon, Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines has gone one step further—planting his own vines and producing the Triassic Pinot Noir and Classic Cuvée. It’s wine you can walk among, taste, and toast in one of the country’s most elegant settings.

In Kent, Boys Hall champions local producers in both cellar and menu, with summer feasts and wine-paired dinners featuring names like Chapel Down. Set among some of England’s top vineyards, the experience is as much about place as it is about provenance.

Sparkling on the Menu

To mark English Wine Week, we spotlight 160 of the UK’s finest dining destinations where you’ll find exceptional English sparkling wines and Champagnes—often served with exclusive member benefits, including a complimentary glass on arrival. Whether it’s Ridgeview Brut with oysters on a Sussex terrace, or Gusbourne Rosé enhancing a tasting menu in Mayfair, these are pours worth celebrating.

This week, raise a (complimentary) glass to English wine—refined, expressive, and proudly homegrown.
