Overview

Tucked away in one of England’s prettiest villages, The Alfriston offers an inviting escape to the South Downs for those seeking charm, comfort and good food in equal measure.

Formerly known as Deans Place, the historic country house hotel has been thoughtfully reimagined – its new identity keeping the warmth and familiarity of the original, but adding a fresh attention to detail across its dining spaces, bedrooms and gardens.

The restaurant is led by seasonality and simplicity – offering unfussy, well-balanced menus that showcase the best of Sussex produce. From leisurely lunches on the terrace to cosy suppers by the fire, this is a place where dining feels quietly special without the need for ceremony.

Much loved by locals and a firm favourite with the Glyndebourne crowd during the summer opera season, The Alfriston makes a perfectly placed stop-off or overnight stay for those making a cultural escape to the countryside.
