Cradle at Cromlix
Nr. Dunblane, Stirlingshire
Overview
Kim and Sir Andy Murray have made Cromlix one of Scotland’s most charismatic country-house hotels, with riotous wallpapers, contemporary art and rooms dressed in glorious colour. Cradle, the hotel’s flagship fine-dining restaurant, is a striking contrast: just 16 covers, inky monochrome interiors and a fantastical fungi chandelier above the tables.
Taking its name from nature and nourishment, Cradle has Executive Head Chef James Mearing overseeing the culinary direction at Cromlix, with Murray Cooper working alongside him in Cradle. The tasting menu raids the estate’s kitchen gardens for vegetables, herbs and flowers, looking to Scotland’s natural larder for the rest.
Intimate and cocooning, Cradle brings a little theatre to the table without the stiffness sometimes associated with tasting-menu dining. A full vegetarian and gluten-free tasting menu is also available on request.
For more relaxed dining, The Garden Room overlooks the lawns, serving lunch and dinner, while the Glasshouse provides a charming setting for afternoon tea. Between the three, Cromlix has become as compelling for its food as for its wonderfully individual interiors and contemporary art.
