A Conversation with Joanne Harris at the Burgh Isl...
The Nettlefold Restaurant - Burgh Island Hotel, Bigbury on Sea Thu, 16th July 2026
There are few literary settings quite like Burgh Island. Reached by its famous sea tractor at high tide or on foot across the sands, this iconic island has inspired generations of writers, most famously Agatha Christie, who immortalised it in Evil Under the Sun and And Then There Were None.
It's a fitting stage, then, for an afternoon with internationally acclaimed author Joanne Harris, whose bestselling novel Chocolat became the Oscar-nominated film starring Juliette Binoche.
Hosted in the elegant surroundings of The Nettlefold Restaurant, the afternoon begins with traditional tea before Joanne shares stories from her writing life, a reading from Chocolat and an immersive chocolate and wine tasting inspired by the novel itself.
With more than twenty novels published in over fifty countries, Joanne Harris remains one of Britain's most celebrated storytellers. Burgh Island provides the perfect backdrop for an afternoon where literature, conversation and flavour come together.
