Opened in 2002 by the renowned restaurateur Mourad Mazouz and MasterChef chef Pierre Gagnaire, Sketch has firmly established itself as not only one of the finest London restaurants (with The Lecture Room & Library holding at least one Michelin star since its opening in 2005 and three Michelin stars since 2020), but an iconic destination for food, drink, music and art recognised throughout the world. From the exterior the unsuspecting Victorian townhouse masks the secrets of a world uncovered inside. Every inch of Sketch is a delight for the senses, all the way to its ‘instafamous’ toilets!

On the ground floor is the artist conceived gastro-brasserie restaurant, the Gallery, where a jazz band plays everyone Sunday while you enjoy dinner, and a live classical string trio during afternoon tea. Since opening its doors in 2002 Sketch has hosted the works of hundreds of artists including; Carsten Nicolai, Chris Levine, Jonas Mekad, Mary Ellen Brute, Ron Arad, and Tracey Emin.

Renowned British-Nigerian artist Yinka Shonibare CBE RA and project architect India Mahdavi transformed the Gallery Restaurant in 2022 with a fresh installation of artwork and interiors. The work is framed in a sunshine-yellow setting, marking a culture-defining chapter for the venue. Shonibare created a 14-piece site-specific work titled Modern Magic, transforming sketch into a powerful celebration of African culture and its legacy.

Awarded Best Chef in the World in 2015, Pierre Gagnaire was at the forefront of fusion cuisine contrasting against the conventions of classic French cooking to create dishes with juxtaposed flavours, textures and ingredients which are visible in his dishes to this day.
