Inside Oriental Club: A Dining Introduction to Oriental Club

12th Jun 2026

Founded in 1824, Oriental Club remains one of London's most historic private clubs. This summer, Luxury Restaurant Guide members are invited to discover its Dining Room, heritage and East-and-West culinary traditions through a special one-off introduction.

There are plenty of places in London to have lunch.

Few occupy quite the same place in London’s history as the Oriental Club.

This summer, Luxury Restaurant Guide members are being offered a one-off introduction to the Oriental Club — one of London’s most historic private clubs and an institution shaped by travel, diplomacy and international influence since its founding in 1824.

For many, private clubs remain largely unseen. Names are familiar, but what lies behind the doors is often less so. Oriental Club offers something rather different from many of its contemporaries. Originally established for military officers, officials and travellers returning from across Asia and the Middle East, the Club was founded on a shared curiosity about the wider world. More than 200 years later, that international outlook remains woven into its identity.

Housed within Stratford House, just moments from Selfridges, Oriental Club remains a place centred on hospitality, shared interests and community. Members gather here for lunch, dinner, events and social occasions in surroundings that continue to reflect the Club’s founding purpose.

To mark its Bicentenary in 2024, Oriental Club commissioned Russell Sage Studio to reimagine the Dining Room. Rich colours, banquette seating and references to the Club’s historic links with Asia and the wider world have given new expression to a room that remains central to Club life.

Dining sits at the heart of the Club. The menu reflects its East-and-West heritage, with British classics sitting alongside authentic Indian dishes, tandoor specialities and longstanding Club curries. Whether visiting for a set lunch, an early dinner or a Friday evening accompanied by live music in the Dining Room, the experience extends beyond the restaurant table and into the wider life of the Club.

Beyond the Dining Room are elegant lounges, private dining spaces, a substantial garden terrace and 40 individually appointed bedrooms. For those considering membership, the introduction provides an opportunity to spend time at the Club before making a formal application. For everyone else, it is simply a chance to discover a side of London that remains largely hidden from view.
