The Cradle Rocking Cromlix
A new restaurant has arrived at Kim and Andy Murray’s Scottish country-house hotel, Cromlix. It’s a gourmet paradise.
Design Restaurants / 02
In the second of our Design Restaurants series, we take a look around Cradle and the riotously good-looking Cromlix, near Dunblane, Scotland.
When Kim Murray went on the hunt for a fine-dining restaurant for Cromlix, the hotel already had pulling power: riotous wallpapers, contemporary art and individually dressed rooms. Next on the wish list: destination dining.

For Cradle, Kim went dark. Inky walls cover panelling, doors and ceiling; white-clothed tables and a fantastical fungi chandelier break the monochrome. Sixteen covers sit inside its dark, cocooning world.
Take a Look Around
The restraint of Cradle comes as something of a surprise after the rest of Cromlix. Bedrooms mix florals, checks and saturated colour; wallpapers climb walls and ceilings; contemporary art appears throughout. No two rooms are quite alike.
Cradle takes its name from nature and nourishment, its monochrome interior carrying touches of Art Nouveau and a butterfly motif through its identity.
From the Garden
Executive Head Chef James Mearing leads the kitchen, with Murray Cooper working alongside him in Cradle. The tasting menu begins in the Cromlix gardens, with vegetables, herbs, flowers and honey grown on the estate and Scotland supplying much of the rest.
Three AA Rosettes have already followed.
The Garden Room
Cradle isn’t the only addition. The larger Garden Room looks across the lawns through a glass-fronted extension, offering a more informal place to eat throughout the day.

Cromlix was awarded Two Michelin Keys in 2026, Michelin’s distinction for outstanding hotels.
Occasions and Gatherings
Cromlix also caters for weddings, private celebrations and meetings, with its own chapel and a boardroom displaying works from Andy Murray’s art collection, including a Damien Hirst.
Even the boardroom get the Cromlix treatment, with contemporary art from Sir Andy Murray's collection.
Plenty to Do
Between a game of tennis, woodland walks and a session in the sauna, there’s plenty to fill the hours before settling into the bar for a well-earned drink.
Wellies are on hand for exploring the grounds, although finding an excuse to stay indoors is hardly difficult.
