Overview

Punting has been a much-loved feature of Oxford life since Victorian times, as it was considered especially suitable as a gentle entertainment for young ladies. Now equally popular with students and visitors alike.

Cherwell Boathouse was built in 1904, and in 1968 was sold to Anthony Verdin, entrepreneur and connoisseur of fine wine and food, who set up the restaurant. It is still family-owned and run today by John Verdin, Anthony's eldest son.

Enter down a small lane to find this award-winning restaurant and punt station on the River Cherwell, and enjoy understated but upscale European dining on the river, with, of course, punts for hire.
