The Dashwood Arms
Oakley Hall - Glasshouse Restaurant
The PowderMills Hotel - The Orangery Restaurant
Battle, East Sussex
Overview
This 18th century listed country house should be high on the interest radar for the history buffs. Skilfully developed to a hotel jammed with antiquities, PowderMills was once the site for the production of the finest gunpowder in Europe. A fact not missed for its location - just outside the town of Battle and adjoining the infamous Battlefield of 1066. Also close is the Battle Abbey which is well worth a visit. Sweep into the impressive lakeside entrance to the property and breathe in the nature. In grounds of 150 acres of park, lake ponds and woodland, with wandering wild geese, swans, ducks and herons, the ambience is set before you walk through the doors. The restaurant is classical and beautiful with bright floor-to-ceiling sash windows, traditional black and white marble floor and Romanesque sculptures bursting with flowers. The restaurant serves the finest classical cooking.
