Design Restaurants Review of 2013

2013 was always going to struggle to compete for news after 2012, the year of the London Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.  We rose to the challenge however and did still manage a Royal Baby and a Wimbledon win at last. The Brits love affair with all things foodie also continued to march unabated. The year started with a slight wobble as we tried to rid ourselves of the spector of horse meat in everything but Paul Hollywood soon had the entire country in the palm of his hand during the Great British Bake-Off. The summer was a flurry of new restaurant openings and sadly some closures of old favourites also. The climax of the year had to be the incredible performance by Steven Edwards in Professional Master Chef, leaving us all emotionally exhausted and ready to be spoon fed turkey for the next two weeks while we recovered!

The big three guides (Michelin, AA and Good Food) all produced their new awards for 2013/2014 leaving a trail of delight, acclaim, confusion and bewilderment in equal measure.
