Merchants’ Tavern is the concoction of Angela Hartnett, Chef Neil Borthwick and Canteen founders, Dominic Lake and Patrick Clayton-Malone. It is named for the team’s belief that chefs are modern day ‘merchants of good fortune’, using their craft to create excellent food. The Tavern is atmospherically housed in a Victorian warehouse and former apothecary: “We spent a long time searching for the right space and we knew this was it. There’s a real sense of history and community here in Shoreditch, which is important for us to maintain. We hope to make Merchants Tavern part of it,” says Angela.
