Endo at The Rotunda

Endo at The Rotunda is a 16-seat restaurant, designed by Kengo Kuma, and offers a unique sensory experience, drawing inspiration from Japanese traditions while paying homage to the many people and places that have inspired Endo on his journey. 

The Rotunda is located at the top of the recently redeveloped, landmark BBC Television Centre in White City, the birthplace of modern British drama. The Rotunda appears as a stand-alone cylindrical space resting on top of the BBC Helios building, enjoying expansive views over West London. 

The two-hundred-year-old Hinoki wood sushi counter – sourced from the mythical forests of Tochigi – evokes the gentle fragrance of ancient temples, whilst it confidently winds through the space. Playfully delineating between the chefs’ and the diners’ areas, the striking counter creates both an intimate and dramatic relationship: it is indeed the interaction between sushi masters and their guests that generates the very special experience of Omakase style dining. 

With only 16 seats right in front of the chefs’ preparation table, guests enjoy direct interaction with personalised attention and contact from the chefs. Touch, sight, smell and taste all fuse together in this ethereal setting. Gentle ambient music, curated by the creator of Ling Ling Lounges and the Japanese garden terrace, where you can enjoy aperitifs and digestifs, bookend the performance. Endo and his team create and serve a magical mystery tour of flavours and textures coupled with a truly intimate experience, and the opportunity to observe the sophisticated skill of the true sushi master.
