5 of The Best Restaurants For: Roaring Open Fires

17th Oct 2016

There is a definite nip in the air now, and these gorgeous autumn days bring falling leaves and crisp darker evenings. It also brings the best of the harvest with a rich variety of seasonal offerings that has chefs zinging with creativity. With thoughts turning to warmth, sustenance and shelter these are our best picks for restaurants to retreat to this autumn for a cosy, inviting atmosphere, warm glow and of course excellent food!

1. The Spread Eagle Hotel, Midhurst

Dating back to 1430, the Spread Eagle has greeted guests with its fireside warmth for centuries. Steeped in history with its own delightful traditions (like Christmas puddings hanging from the ceiling) the restaurant has a huge fireplace that will warm you no matter where in the room you sit. When you have finished your meal take your pick of deep squashy sofas in front of more roaring fires!

At Great Fosters you are totally spoilt for roaring fires. You needn’t ever leave the warmth of the firelight and can sit by the fire in the main hall for your afternoon tea or aperitif, by the fire in the Estate Grill while you eat your lunch or dinner, and then relax again by the fire in the Anne Boleyn room to have your coffee and petits four.
