1. Blakes, London, SW7

Blakes’ Signature suites boast the most romantic and magical themes defining Anouska Hempel’s collection at Blakes since 1978. Quite simply the ultimate in luxury and romantic experiences, touched with an irresistibly extravagant back drop that will make you never want to depart.  These rooms are so unbelievably sumptuous that it is a trial to pick just one. The winner of the Mr & Mrs Smith ‘Britain’s Sexiest Hotel Room’ was the divine Corfu Suite which we’ve used in our featured image so surely that means we can add another? Oh ok! For details go to www.blakeshotels.com and for member dining benefits click here.

2.  Foxhill Manor, Cotswolds

Dormy House’s sister property, Foxhill, is a private manor-house hotel in the Cotswolds, with eight unique bedrooms and suites.  A Grade-II listed Arts and Crafts country home refreshed and revitalised for the 21st century, Foxhill Manor is a new type of stay: all the character and charm of a boutique-hotel hideaway, served up with heartfelt personal service and an easygoing at-home atmosphere. The 753sq ft Oak suite is already becoming a ‘destination’ in itself with it’s twin baths positioned right in front of the leaded windows. Previously you had to hire the whole house exclusively to stay but as of 10th March, Foxhill Manor will be doing things a little bit differently. You’ll be able to book it on a room-by-room basis, without having to take over the whole place… shhh!  For booking info go to www.foxhillmanor.com/.

3. The Lugger, Portloe, Cornwall

Arguably one of the very best boutique hotel hideaways in the UK, The Lugger is situated in the wildly romantic setting of Portloe and is literally part of the renowned Cornish Coastal footpath. DR’s sales manager Paula was lucky to enough to stay for her honeymoon in an adorable suite with tiny terrace overlooking the picturesque harbour. Recently named “Best Seaside Hotel” by the Sunday Times this is the place to lose yourself and enjoy moonlight and romance. The rooms are cosy and decorated in a New England seaside chic style with most having views of the sea. Room 201 has been reviewed enthusiastically by many of the more discerning sites although Paula says all sea view rooms are lovely. 4. Great Fosters, Egham, Surrey

Tudor chic has never been more popular with historical dramas such as the BBC’s Wolf Hall sending us all into a reverie of heavily tapestried four poster beds and suggestive looks lit by candlelight. If the world of Henry VIII sends your pulse racing then former Royal Hunting Lodge, Great Fosters, will tick all the boxes. Combining historical acclaim with a gracious setting and modern amenities you will truly feel as though you are following in the footsteps of British nobles as you glide along the wood paneled corridors. All 43 suites and bedrooms are individually decorated but it is the historic suites with furnishings dating back hundreds of years that offer the authentic experience. Our pick is the Italian Suite complete with gold cherubs. For booking information go to www.greatfosters.co.uk  and for member dining benefit click here.

6. Lower Slaughter Manor, Gloucestershire

This famous Cotswold hotel is now owned by Brownsword Hotels who also boast the acclaimed Gidleigh Park. Definitely on our top 10 as it actually has a suite named ‘Valentine’ and it certainly does not disappoint. With a four poster bed piled so high with cushions you’ll feel like the Princess and The Pea and an elegant bathroom complete with matching bath tubs you’d think it couldn’t get any better. Then you’ll discover the private courtyard with hot tub. You’ll never be so clean! For booking information go to www.lowerslaughter.co.uk . Member dining benefits do not apply here.

7. Seaham Hall, Seaham, Country Durham

At sumptuous Seaham they believe it is all in the detail, and at this all suite hotel you will be totally spoilt for choice with each room individually designed and most boasting freestanding baths and walk in showers. With far- reaching views across the gardens to the sea, the award-winning serenity spa to fully pamper yourself in and two restaurants, it will be very hard to leave. Although the Garden suites have their own terraces, for this time of year we love the comfort of the quirky and stylish Junior Suite 5 along with its astonishing views on two sides. 8. Stapleford Park, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire

This beautiful country estate is surrounded by 500 acres of Capability landscaped grounds offering the perfect location for a romantic escape. With 48 individually designed rooms and suites to choose from there will be a personality style to suit everyone. There is the contemporary and opulent  Sanderson Suite, the buttermilk decor of the Baker suite or even a room sponsored by Range Rover in the Gardeners Cottage which is designed in their famous off road green! We however are in love with the glorious David Hicks designed State Room with its barrel shaped ceiling and candy striped drapes. 9. Coworth Park, Ascot, Surrey

If traditional turns you off and modern is your thing then the Georgian charm of the original Coworth Park’s manor house estate has been enhanced with an eccentric decorative flair that is altogether contemporary. Many of the bedrooms have modern four posters featuring a distinctive ‘tree’ branch style. Although the rooms in the main house are glorious, we are really rather taken with the suite in the Gardener’s East Cottage. Featuring uninterrupted views across the lakes, polo fields and lush woodlands this idyllic room has an open fire flanked by sofas and an imressive countryside backdrop to the copper roll top bath. We think you’ll be having breakfast in your room! 10. Inverlochy Castle, Fort William, Scotland

When it comes to romance, we couldn’t possibly ignore Scotland and we also needed a castle and so the most divinely dramatic combination of these has to be Inverlochy Castle. In September 1873 during a trip to Balmoral, Queen Victoria spent a week at Inverlochy sketching and painting where she wrote in her diaries ‘I never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot’.With 17 bedrooms on offer three of them are opulent suites decorated in gloriously unashamed traditional style. Our favourite of the suites is the feminine Queen Suite with its ruffled four poster and striking vista across the stunning foothills of Ben Nevis. With views across its own loch – you could not fail to feel romantic in this unforgettable setting.  For booking details go to inverlochycastlehotel.com and for member dining benefits click here.
