Head Chef  -  Steve Poyner

Born in Torquay and graduating from South Devon College, Steve joined the kitchen of the Cary Arms & Spa when it re-opened after an extensive refurbishment by Peter and Lana de Savary. He later went to work at de Savary's Oxfordshire hotel, The Old Swan and Minster Mill, where his skill and enthusiasm to learn led to his promotion to Chef de Partie after only eight months. Four years later and with much ignited passion and experience under his belt, Poyner chose to return to his roots back at the Cary Arms & Spa as Sous Chef. Since then he has been working with a talented and close-knit kitchen team and has been instrumental in the philosophy and success of the restaurant - from their use of the finest local ingredients to their AA rosette.

Discerning travellers may well know the de Savary name, that's Peter and Lana de Savary, the internationally renowned owners and operators of some of the finest properties around the world, amongst which - Cary Arms.

Known as "The Inn on the Beach", the Cary Arms is one of the finest boutique hotels in Devon, brimming with coastal charm and combining all the values of a classic English Inn with the style and comfort of the best luxury hotels in Devon. The outstanding setting and views are breathtakingly beautiful all year round - a treat.

The watchwords in the kitchen are freshness and seasonality, underpinned by a deep-rooted respect for the surrounding waters and land. This is a place where hungry walkers, families, friends and travelling foodies are welcomed with a fantastic range of Devon fish, seafood and farm produce -where even a pint of prawns is presented with panache.
