The Star Inn

The setting in the middle of the South Oxfordshire countryside couldn’t be more idyllic. In the heart of an ancient village, The Star is everything you want in a country restaurant. It combines a welcoming bar with exceptional restaurant. There is also a sunny outdoor terrace and a lawned garden area next to a babbling brook. And, if you want to stay a night or two there’s a separate barn with eight luxurious bedrooms.

Built in 1720 but is a relative newcomer in a village whose church dates back to the 14th century. It’s a building that has beautiful bones featuring simple Georgian architecture with high ceilings and an airy sense of space.

Eating at The Star is all about special extra touches. At the bar you will find their own roasted nuts. For lunch they offer a concise set menu that is a taste of everything that is perfect to eat right now; and for dinner there is a full À la Carte menu showcasing the inventiveness of Michelin-starred Executive Chef Peter Eaton. It is full of seasonal treats and special dishes – like a Côte de Boeuf to share – with a real sense of occasion. Peter has an amazing pedigree having been responsible for retaining one Michelin star at sister restaurant, The Woodspeen, since 2014. Prior to this, Peter cooked at the highest level in some of Britain’s best kitchens including Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons and The Vineyard at Stockcross.
